Document Process Management, Approval Processes, Workflow... there are many
terms that are used to describe the handling of "things" in a controlled
manner..
Document Process Management ("DPM") is about managing the handling of a
document in a pre-defined way.
Compared to Business Process Management, one or more Document Processes could
belong to a single Business Process. A Business Process is a wider term than
Document Process. On the other hand, sometimes a business process is equal to a
single document process.
Confusing? Let's try to clarify things by giving a look to the added
value Paperiton DMS Document Process Management gives to you.
Define the Document Process
To begin with, you need to have the document process defined.
Paperiton DMS Management Tools is where you define the Document Processes. The
Process Editor is a graphical tool, with which you define the tasks
(queues) in the process, and how those tasks are linked together.
You have a wide range of possibilities to incorporate document automation to
events in the workflow. As an example, when a document leaves or enters a
queue, the value of a document meta information can be automatically set, or
email sent, and so on. New types of event handlers can be created as
needed. No programming skills are needed to use one or more of the pre-defined
event handlers, you simply add the handler to an event, and set the parameters
in an easy to use editor.
Also, parallel and serial processes or parts of processes, are supported.
There is no limitation to how many different kinds of Document Processes you
define.
Document Processes in Paperiton DMS
When the Document Process has been defined with the Paperiton DMS Management
Tools, you need to send a document to the process. Document can
be added to a process either manually by a user, or the addition to a
process can be automated with Paperiton DMS Automation.
The main tool for handling the documents in a process is the Document Routings
view of Paperiton DMS. The user will see the documents located in the
queues assigned to him or her. What is supposed to do is defined in the task,
and the available forwarding options are readily available.
All user actions as well as how the document is moved in the process are logged,
so you can monitor the exact progress of the document handling.
